Petition to Action
Airport Expansion and Dredging of Tinicum Coastline

As a member of the local waterfront & marina community, I have a stake in the long-term health and wellbeing of the local waterfront. The Tinicum Coastline Partnership is a nonprofit that serves the Delaware river coastline from the airport to the Commodore Barry Bridge.  The members, waterfront owners, nonprofits, businesses and friends together act as one of many voices very interested in how the Airport improvements impact our river over the next decade.  We know that past Airport development projects have ignored marina and waterfront residents, owners, businesses, environmentalists, historians and voters.  To make our interests better known in preparation for the expansion of the airport, we are reaching out to you as a political leader to assist us with conviction to convince the authorities that this Airport expansion project will be different.

We have initiated this petition to enlist support for our voice with the congressional representatives directly appointed to ensure our interests are heard; Robert Brady and Patrick Meehan.  As stakeholders in our future, the waterfront community has influential political leadership whose support is long overdue.  Each of us has influence with our legislator. In this matter, the waterfront community needs political support so that we are not be neglected -as in past airport expansions projects.   We are taking action and our first step is this petition for enlisting federal representation for future conversations with the Township and the Airport.

We want to negotiate action on these four points:

Call to Action:  To convey to the Airport we wish the Airport to remove the slurry and dredge pipes installed beneath the river in the 1960’s and 1970’s which can be seen on Little Tinicum Island and on Airport property.  As our political leaders’ we feel it is your responsibility to act on our behalf to negotiate with Tinicum Township and Airport leadership to remove pipes from the past dredging activities.

Call to Action: We want the Airport to Dredge the waterfront coastline to pre-empt further reducing water flow and further build-up of sledge inside the marinas’ which has resulted in years of loss of slip revenue and on- going marina expansion further into deeper river water.  The neglect has eroded water flow, reduced slip revenue and hurts Tinicum businesses in the way of boater events, visitors and enjoyment by the community; not to mention unknown environmental issues stemming from the Airports’ past and possible future neglect.

Call to Action:, to assist in implementing with the Airport a long-term dredge maintenance plan benefiting all the stakeholders of waterfront.  We wish for a mutually beneficial project development all along our waterfront corridor, one that makes sense to all the constituents for many decades to come.

Call to Action:  Finally, we want a commitment from our political leadership to meet with us (the petitioners) regarding each of these issues so that we may voice our concerns today and then again after any forthcoming negotiations concluded and agreements signed.

If you agree, please sign our petition by completing the form below:

I, the undersigned, am a concerned citizen who, along with other petition signers, urge our leaders to become involved in the Airport/Tinicum negotiations to support the goals as outlined in the above petition.  We want action and our requirements to be included as part of the current expansion negotiations of the Airport.
